Parts of the Mouth

Your mouth allows you to speak, breathe, and chew. Listed below are specific parts of the mouth and where they are located.

  • Hard palate. The front of the roof of the mouth.

  • Soft palate. The back of the roof of the mouth.

  • Uvula. The soft tissue that hangs from the soft palate.

  • Tonsils. Lumps of tissue on the sides of the throat.

  • Retromolar trigone. Tissue that joins the upper and lower jaws.

  • Floor of the mouth. Soft tissue under the tongue.
